RRB NTPC UG Syllabus Overview

The RRB NTPC UG Syllabus 2026 has three subjects: General Awareness, Mathematics and General Intelligence and Reasoning. Mathematics and Reasoning are around Class 10 level, and General Awareness mixes current affairs with static topics. General Awareness carries 40 of the 100 marks in CBT 1 and 50 of the 120 in CBT 2, so it is the cheapest place to score. The notification says the distribution of questions can change a little, so treat the section split as a guide and not a promise.

RRB NTPC UG Exam Pattern

  • Stage 1, CBT 1: 100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes. General Awareness 40, Mathematics 30, General Intelligence and Reasoning 30.
  • Stage 2, CBT 2: 120 questions, 120 marks, 90 minutes. General Awareness 50, Mathematics 35, General Intelligence and Reasoning 35.
  • Every right answer gives 1 mark and every wrong answer takes away 1/3 mark. Questions you leave blank carry no penalty.
  • Candidates who need a scribe or are eligible as PwBD get 120 minutes in each paper.
  • After the two tests come document verification and the medical examination.
  • Reported qualifying marks in each CBT: UR and EWS 40%, OBC and SC 30%, ST 25%.

CBT 1 is mainly a screening round, and its normalised score decides who gets into CBT 2. CBT 2 is the round that carries the merit, so a strong CBT 2 matters most. Several sources say there is no separate typing skill test for these four undergraduate posts this time, even for the two Clerk Cum Typist posts. The RRB NTPC UG Syllabus 2026 for the two papers is almost the same, and CBT 2 simply has more questions and is a little harder. Please confirm the stages and qualifying marks in the official notification (CEN 07/2026) on rrbapply.gov.in.

Subject Wise Syllabus

Use this RRB NTPC UG Syllabus 2026 list as a checklist. Tick off a topic only after you have solved questions on it, not just read about it.

  • General Awareness: current affairs, sports, art and culture, Indian literature, monuments and places, general science (up to Class 10), history and the freedom struggle, geography of India and the world, polity and the Constitution, science and technology, space and nuclear programme, world organisations, environment, computer basics, common abbreviations, transport, the Indian economy, famous personalities, government schemes, flora and fauna, and public sector organisations.
  • Mathematics: number system, decimals and fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time speed and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, elementary algebra, geometry, trigonometry and elementary statistics.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: analogies, number and alphabet series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, similarities and differences, relationships, analytical reasoning, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, puzzles, data sufficiency, statement and conclusion, statement and course of action, decision making, maps and interpretation of graphs.

How to Prepare for RRB NTPC UG 2026

  1. Start the RRB NTPC UG Syllabus 2026 with Mathematics and Reasoning for 60 to 90 minutes a day. These two give 60 of the 100 marks in CBT 1, and they improve only with practice.
  2. Give General Awareness a fixed 30 to 45 minutes daily, with current affairs of the last 6 months and short notes on polity, geography and general science.
  3. Watch your time. In CBT 1 you have about 54 seconds a question, so skip a question that needs more than a minute and come back to it.
  4. Remember the 1/3 negative mark: three wrong answers cost you one right answer. Guess only when you can remove two options.
  5. Take a full length mock test every week in the same 90 minute format, and spend as much time reviewing it as taking it.
  6. Keep the notification (CEN 07/2026) handy and check the exam date and city slip on the official RRB websites.
